Fishy Favors – How to make fish in a bag soap party favors

These are brilliant, my kids just love them! I've finally found a way to make them love washing their hands. It's a genius idea! It's so simple to make and it's the perfect party favor for either an under the sea or carnival themed party.

What you need…..

  • Extra clear melt & pour soap (3.5 oz)

  • Blue soap dye (one drop)

  • Plastic fish

  • Plastic bag (4x6 inches)

  • Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle

  • Floral wire

  • Plastic measuring jug

  • Clothes peg

  • Colored ribbon to suit the theme of your party

Most of these items can be ordered from Amazon or brought from your craft shop.

How you do it……

  • Prepare the fish - to get the fish swimming perfectly in the center of the bag, attach the fish to a 9 inch piece of wire. Make a hole with a nail where the tail starts and then thread the wire through the tail and bend it under the fish.

  • Prepare the bag - take your plastic bag and fold the top two inches of the bag over. (this stops the soap dripping on the bag when you pour it into the bag). Put the bag inside a small cup and place the fish in the center with the wire sticking out of the top.

  • Prepare the soap - cut the soap into small cubes and place them inside the plastic measuring jug. Microwave for 20 seconds and then stir, there should still be small pieces of undissolved soap when you remove it. This should melt when you stir it, if not microwave for another 5 seconds. Very important - do not boil otherwise it will melt your bag! Place one drop of blue soap dye to create blue water and stir. (I include the blue color as the clear soap is not completely transparent and otherwise the water looks cloudy)

  • Putting it together - pour the soap into the bag and then spray the top of the soap with the rubbing alcohol (this removes any bubbles from the surface). Unfold the top of the bag, tie together with a ribbon and adjust the fish on the wire so that it swims in the middle of the bag. Use the pegs to hang them from your dish rack.

  • Remove the wire - After about 25 mins the soap will harden and you can gently remove the wire and the fish will remain suspended in the soap.

  • Decorate - Tie with a ribbon and a thank you card for the perfect favor.
